Preparing for past papers with Mr. Wright from St. John’s School, Leatherhead.

“Fancy a way of livening up past paper revision with your GCSE classes? Before asking your students to read the paper, try making a Nutty Tilez list of all the interesting vocabulary items and setting this as homework the lesson before. When students sit the paper, they’ll feel far more confident and focus on this new language, rather than skipping the harder words they don’t understand. This method is particularly effective for keywords that don’t correspond to a particular topic area but crop up again and again and greatly affect the meaning of the text, for example “mismo”, “gratuito”, or “actualmente”. Once you’ve done this for a few papers, students will have access to a high quality online revision resource that they will enjoy spending time on.”

Here’s Mr. Wright’s list, which he used to prepare his students before they tried 2016’s reading IGCSE Spanish reading paper. We’ve made lists for the French and German papers from the same year, too!
